Autumn in Japan is the season for reading. Iāve been a bit busy lately, so I havenāt had time for pleasure reading. Still, there are more than 10 days left this month. I will read the following three!
āFive Modern Japanese Novelistsā by Donald Keene (translated by Shiro Matsumiya)
Donald Keene is one of the most noted translators. He translated Chikamatsu, Basho, and Mishima. He formed close friendships with Japanese literary giants.
āAutumn Lightā by Pico Iyer
Pico Iyer is a great philosopher and travel writer. He has been living in Nara for the past 30 years and has appeared in the Ted Talks 3 times. I am a huge fan of his.
āHow to Japanā by Colin Joyce
Colin Joyce is from the U.K and a freelance journalist. He used to work as a correspondent for the Daily Telegraph. You can take a glimpse of the contemporary Japanese society in many facets.
